claustrophobia and flying

They have similar effects. Valerian Root’s effects are much shorter though. If this is just a problem when flying, and Valerian and / or Vodka isn’t doing the trick, get a script for Xanax, Valium or Ativan and be done with it. Unless you fly every week or more, they’ll work fine. You might try Sonata as well. It has a very short half life. erf

Hi All, I am suprised to read on a alternative health NG.. someone recommending harsh prescription drugs such as Xanax. Forgive me if I have missed prior threads to this topic, but seems to be quite hyprocritcal. I have a pet hate to Xanax, Valium etc… and I strongly believe these drugs are over prescribed.. I would have simply recommended a relaxing oil in a atomizer or hankie during the flight, and perhaps a refreshing, Lemon, Lime etc… for close to flight arrival. Stick to the Valarian to comfort, relax.. If it is a quite severe fear.. perhaps consult a therapist. Regards Maryanne – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – > They have similar effects. Is she a new flyer? A few things I’ve seen work are Gravol (and similar), Valerian Root (take some Valerian tea bags on the flight), alcohol and mild anti anxiety meds like Loraxepam (Ativan) or Xanax). If she’s not troubled by other anxieties then this one will prolly pass. > I was looking for an aromatherapy solution or perhaps one of the Bach Flower > Remedies. Any ideas or advice ?
Worth a try. But if her condition is sever they probably won’t work. erf

In addition to all the other remedies suggested here, I recommend that your friend telephone the airline and explain the situation to the staff. The purser can arrange seating at the emergency exit which is roomier than the usual and also he or she sits opposite the passanger for take off and landing. They are experienced at dealing with people who suffer from claustrophobia, and also fear of flying. Moira, the Faerie Godmother

the all round BEST essential oil I have seen used for anxiety is Neroli. sometimes blending a bit of vetiver, for grounding, helps as well. >Folks, >Can anyone help with a case of claustrophobia when flying. The only thing Valerian and Valium have in common is they both start with Val. It is a common mistake to think they work in the same way. Passiflora tincture or tea would be my choice to drink while sniffing Marge’s Neroli oil. Deb — Check 3 books, get 3 more opinions. Don’t just take my word. I’m still learning. ;>

Wow, can I empathise there, recently had my first flight ever… After 2 years of panic attacks, anxiety, small depression, tummy trouble, I had the challenge of my lifetime. Get well enough to travel from UK to the Caribbean for my brothers wedding…. How could I not go…? So, I relented and saw a chinese herbalist… With his help, the ever lasting patience of my boyfriend, some support from total strangers on the web, and loads more. I cracked it.. And I was one of the few that didnt spend a day or two in bed being sick… :0) Some poor sods just dont know when to quit at the free bar! :0) I made a kind of armoury of things that made me feel better, as well as a regular yoga practise, and an allergy free diet (you dont have to be allergic to anything to benefit from it), and an effort to follow each negative thought into a positive though or to follow the fearful emotion all the way till it had no argument left Oatmeal (soothes the nervous system) Soft Fruit Peppermint tea Ayurvedic Worry Free Tea (asked the hostess on the plane for hot water to drink rather than tea or coffee) Valerian tablets Bach’s Rescue Remedy (counters all the emotions that drive and result from fear and anxiety) Smelling Salts from Body Shop – purported to have had clary sage, lavender, and one other ingedient. It was a sooper handy size for stuffing in the pockets Tonic from the Herbalist for stomach Tonic from the Herbalist for panic Books, lots of positive tales of miracle cures, but mostly something to help the mind stray CALM BREATHING into the abdomen, through the nose… beta blockers (just in case – but I dont recall taking one) I hope your girl can get some more ideas from the NG regarding specific products and scents, and finds herself a little extra peace .. kind wishes Sue – Hide quoted text — Show quoted text – >Folks, >Can anyone help with a case of claustrophobia when flying.
